Malyasia by The_Nomad on 1 March 2004 2:45am
I'm off to Malaysia for a few weeks with my girlfriend later on in the year as a side trip on the way to a working holiday in Australia. We have decided to head for Borneo because of the orang-utans. What advice I'm after is how to see the real Malaysia, not some fancy hotel. Maybe staying in a longhouse or along those lines. We have, however, no idea of how to go about this. Any help would be great!

no idea how to help but i do envy you-give the orang-utans a big kiss from me- just hope they dont bite your face off!

Hey cutie, not sure what type of work we're gonna do while in oz, i'll probably just do bar work. there's always fruit picking but i don't like the spiders that live near the fruit!

The only part of Malaysia i keep seeing, is the border post. Because i stay in Thailand on the free 30 day stamps whenever i go there. I go down to the border when it's running out. Stamp out. Cross into Malaysia. Fill in the form. Get a stamp into Malaysia. Walk past the booth. Turn around. Get stamped out of Malaysia. Back into Thailand. Fill in the form, get stamped in for another 30 days in Thailand. Hehehe. It's so funny. The guards know exactly what you're doing to, and they dont mind. Takes about 10 minutes :)

my guess would be to just get a flight there & jump on a train/bus and see where u end up.could be scary, but would be an adventure!.i was there a while ago but was only adventurous enough to go on k/l city tour!!!!!!.have fun

We've just booked a flight to Sandakan in Borneo so I took your advice 'world traveller'! ha, just kidding, we booked last week. i agree with gettin on a bus or train though, i've found its the best way to see the country and get to know the locals and their way of life
