The Scottish Pipe Band Championships are on tomorrow in Dumbarton and we won't be there :(

What a coincidence ! I also will not be there.

The pipe band that my nephew is in (Field Marshal Montgomery) have won the Grade 1 competition in the championships above.
~
St, Laurence O'Toole from Eire were second and Scottish Power were third.

It was the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow today and my nephew's band are World Champions in Grade 1, beating Simon Fraser University from Canada and Scottish Power into second and third places respectively. They won with a score of 12 points and the second band had 30 and third got 32. The end of their medley set was extraordinarily good. The BBC may have the bands performances online in a week or so.

Well done Ken's nephew's band!!

There used to be a pipe band in the town we used to live in, Stone in Staffordshire.

I remember probably 20 or more years ago they organised a Pipe band championship here in Staffordshsire - can't remember if it was an international or national championships. It was held at Shugborough Hall, home of Patrick, Earl of Lichfield (this was a few years before he sadly passed away).

My husband organised an AAA national tug-of-war comp which was held at the same time (he had organised comps for our local Festival which were well-thought of in TOW circles. We used to regularly get the world champs down to our Festival in Stone, Staffs.

My jobs were to oversee the weigh-ins (this is very strict); look after the judges; and, at Shugborough at least, give out the medals to the winning teams (meaning lots of kisses from sweaty, beefy men (oh joy)).

Funniest part of the day was having Patrick Lichfield walk past, jump over the fence into the arena, and split his trousers!! He thought it was hilarious and so did I!!

Well done again!!

:)

Congrats to your nephew Ken!

I play golf in a nine holers ladies league on Thursday mornings. Stay with me, there is mention of a band later.

On Thursday this past week the course was being cleaned and manicured etc. for the upcoming 3 day member/member tournament. A men's only golf tournament that started on Friday and continued on til Sunday.

Now golf is a game of finesse, it demands concentration and focus and in order to be able to do that you need quiet.

My partner and I had just finshed playing the fifth hole when two machines that looked like large sit on vacuum cleaners started whirring around on the green. They were still there, 40 yards behind us as we were teeing up on the sixth T-Box and ahead of us in the fairway were two ride on lawnmowers and a tractor, crossing back and forth in the fairway we were hitting into.

I kid you not, 100 feet above us in the sky was a Direct TV Zepplin! The noise from all of these machines was absolutely deafening.

I turned to my golfing buddy and shouted "This is kind of comical really!"

Her response,

"The marching band will be arriving soon!"

:-)

Hey, it made me laugh.

This is the link to the BBC recording of FMM's medley set. It lasts 8 minutes and is worth listening to all the way through. The MSR (march strathspey and reel) set should be available from Monday.

The MSR is available on the same link and my daughter and I managed to get caught on camera, just as they finished, top left of the crowd with me in the yellow jacket.
~
Scottish Power's medley is a good going set of tunes.

This year's excerpts can be found if you google BBC Worlds 2012. You'll get world class playing from all the bands and I think the judges got it right giving FMMPB the top prize again this year.
~
I liked Boghall and Bathgate's medley and if your video streaming is good FM's medley and MSR sets are also very good. There are a few Canadian bands in there too.
