My apologies for the errors. The RSGS was established in 1884 and they helped the University of Edinburgh celebrate 100 years of geography.
It did seem to me like Dr. Palin was awarded the honorary doctorate on the night - he had received the honorory degree a few years earlier.
imkgeo knows his university campus better than me and my labeling of the meeting place was too hastily written.

Found this on a search for something else.

I don't know what I found back then but it looks like I forgot to say what it was?! (KD Jan 2018)

Mr P (please excuse the abbreviated form of address) has a part in the film/movie The Death of Stalin. There was a couple of clips on BBC1 this morning and he plays a Russian political minister from the time.

I saw a review of this film yesterday (21st) and it looks like a very good film to see as it seems to be a Monty Pythonesque comedy.

I saw the film a couple of weeks ago. Excellent!

There was a nice tribute to Mr P last night on BBC2 for an hour. It was followed by 'And Now For Something Completely Different'. It would have been even better if they had followed that with one of his travel series episodes.

I've just noticed that Mr P has put an update on his other website on 5th January. I accessed it via the 'NEWS' box. He is working on 'Erebus', a book about a ship and geographical feature of the same name with Antarctic connections.

Re. my post in 8 Jan. : I stumbled on the last episode of Himalaya on BBC2 between 1115 and 1215 this morning and it was great. Unfortunately the episode was very high and when I fell I hurt my back which is still troublesome?! Fortunately there is some very good 'sofa snooker' on the telly at the moment.
