Salalah (Oman) during the Kareef by DesertDiva on 10 August 2012 2:26pm

Hi, last month my husband and I did a road trip to the Dhofar region, Oman during the Kareef (Monsoon). Just a tiny portion of this large arid country gets the blessing of the monsoon's kiss, between June and August each year. You can read about my travels, and download my routes (readable in Garmin Mapsource) - here - http://mbfullemptyquarter.blogspot.com/2012/07/seven-degrees-southwards-journey-from.html.
Hope it's ok to put blog links here and hope that you enjoy it.

Oh, the link did not work. What's Garmin Mapsource? Hope to read the blogpost soon.

Thanks for the heads-up LOretto.
Here's the link to my whole blog - the start of the Salalah series was posted on 18th July. http://mbfullemptyquarter.blogspot.co.uk - hope this one works!
Garmin mapsource is the programme that works with Garmin GPS devices, I realise that not everyone has access to this so have taken screenshots of the routes and also waypoints which you can copy and paste into google earth.
Hope you enjoy it :)

Marina, hi and welcome to the site! I absolutely love your blog! You are a lovely writer.

I can't believe that driving a dirty car is illegal there! I'd spend a lot of time in the clink! My mini Cooper is washed by rain!

I also am delighted that you mentioned the importance of tipping people in the service industry, mostly immigrants it seems, I think they deserve a bit more than UAE minimum wage and they probably send most of what they earn back home to family as you stated.

I also found it interesting that green used to be the traditional color if a bride's dress, as that color at western weddings is considered unlucky for weddings. (Remember the hoopla over Pippa Middleton?)

I just wanted to add you looked great dressed up for that wedding you attended also.

I do live that you added sat nav coordinates to help visitors make their way around.

Great blog. Please keep sharing your posts.

Best to you,
Loretto

All the stupid spelling mistakes are due to posting on an IPhone!! Correcting them takes forever, apologies.

Thanks for your kind words Loretto - I have been getting so many hits on my blog and almost no comments! I really enjoy travelling and experiencing the "real" arabia, not the pre-packaged, sanitised version! Currently in Liwa driving (a bit dodgy at this time of year, soft sand and extreme temps) so will blog about that very soon. Also next time I go up to Dubai I will blog about the boats at the Creek, one of my favourite places in the arabian metropolis!
