Come on the Olympics by Wheelrim on 27 July 2012 4:30pm

Just GOTTA say, `Come on Britain` and the very best of luck with the Olympic Games. I dont just mean to our competitors, I mean to the whole event, I REALLY hope all goes smoothly tonight with the opening ceremony and that we put on a good show for the world, we have the talent and the history to draw upon so it should be great.
Afterwards.... Hey, lets get back to BASICS for the next one, its about the competition between athletes, not `who can make it bigger and better`. I thought Greece had the ideal opportunity to get back to basics, in 1908 the Olympics cost Britain £20.000,
this one is over 9 Billion.!

Back to Basics?

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but so far the whole thing has been a complete cock-up, and I don't see it getting better. I can't stand the Olympics anyway. I hope it goes well, but I'm not bothered about the event to be honest. Just not my thing.

Danny Boyle did himself proud. A brilliant show!

Bloody Brilliant, well done to all involved, a few touches of inspiration there, The Queen with 007, Mr Bean, and the Cauldron was fantastic, epic stirring stuff. And the inclusion of the construction workers was excellent. Some say TOO British? Nah, it was us being us. Proud.

A great show was spoiled with the-pain-in-the-arse, that is Paul McCartney, being wheeled out to end it. Even his greatest fan would have to admit that his 'singing' was woeful.

Well done Danny Boyle.

I have to agree with you Johnny. I'm a life long Beatles fan, though John was my fave, and even I have to say Paul was RUBBISH!! I admit I sang along though (poor Zak!)!!

We have recorded it, as we couldn't miss Big Brother Eviction night! We turned over during the adverts and it looked really good, and then watched the end bits after BB finished

The recorder didnt work for BB? get THAT fixed, obviously it doesn`t as no-one in their right mind Anne would choose BB over the opening ceremony...would they?
Yes I agree about Paul McCartney`s performance, pretty woeful, but it did not `spoil` it. I do think that for the closing ceremony they should re-create the Beatles `All You Need Is Love` live TV performance. That could have been an opener too reallly, `Theres nothing you can do that can`t be done` etc. classic lines.

Oh I remember that night, when there was some sort of satellite link up around the world and OUR contribution was the Beatles singing 'All you need is Love'. My 13 (or 14?) year old self reckoned the rest of the world must have been jealous!!

We COULD have recorded BB, of course, but we couldn't wait to watch the eviction! We've watched 'most' of the ceremony this afternoon - I spent most of it on the edge of tears (and we haven't got to Paul's performance yet)!

Paul Mc didn't spoil the whole thing, but it was embarrassing. If they wanted an 'elder statesman' of GB music then Elton John would've been a better choice in our view, or even Tom Jones. I have to accept that U2 wouldn't have been right, not being 'team GB'.
