Hi from Stratford Canada by young_enthusiast on 31 August 2010 11:11pm

Hi everyone!
As my username suggests, I am very interested in learning about cultures and customs of other countries, specifically ones who haven't been heavily impacted by the ways of western society. However, my age prevents me from traveling and that is why I am an 'enthusiast' rather than an actual 'traveler'.

Thanks!
I have been a fan of Michael Palin since I was little so it was a real treat to find this site.
Have you ever been to Canada? -Natalie

I have been to Canada - Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon (plus Alaska on same trip). Beautiful!

The Rocky Mountains are certainly beautiful.
I have not been able to get out there but I have an Aunt in BC, so I will make an effort to get out there.

My only experience with large mountain ranges was when our school music department went through the alps from Saltzburg to Prague. I'd love to visit there again!

Hello Natalie. So, you are musical ? Which instrument do you play ?
I'm a great guesser, so I'll guess that it's the flute or a variation thereof.

The Alps are far too scary for me but in my ventures to Europe, I did a fair bit of climbing in Holland.

Love their beer, LOL !

Hi, Natalie!

I first went to Stratford when I was about 7 long ago in the last century and I saw my first Shakespeare play there. The only thing I remember about it was my amazement that Iago was wearing green eyeshadow.

Have you seen "Slings and Arrows" which is definitely in my Top 5 of all time great tv series. It's based on the on the Stratford Festival.

Half-Canadian, totally Californian,

Well Johnny, I'm sorry but your guessing is a bit off. I play the trombone and the baritone. I love the big brass :)

It sounds a bit depressing but I haven't actually seen any plays in the festival theatre. However I actually had the honour of acting on the avon stage with our school play. However I am hoping to see Peter Pan!

Hi Natalie.
Welcome to Palinstravels. I will add you to the Vital Statistics section so everyone can refer to it if they want to know who you are long after this thread gets lost among the many.

I've certainly been to the Alps: in Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France and the old republic of Yugoslavia. Salzburg is so lovely and quite warm and charming in every way. Your being a musician must've made your visit there especially exciting and interesting. The Germanic countries are definitely among my most favorite destinations on the planet.
