They're making me do *what*?! by bandgeek512 on 22 February 2006 12:11am

Great. Life has officially figured out yet another way to annoy me even further. I said it couldn't be done, but life has proven me wrong.

I wore a 3-day heart monitor for the cardiologist to see if I had apparent arrhythmia or any other heart rate conditions. That was torture, for those that are wondering. A series of (I think) 9 or 10 electrodes are attached to various places around my back and chest. Before those can be placed, my skin has to be prepped. For prepping, the areas have to be cleaned with alcohol, rubbed with cotton to clear off any more dirt, and scrubbed with sandpaper to remove the top layer of skin.

That is bad enough. But, after the first twenty-four hours, the skin becomes severely irritated and begins to itch. Furthermore, the monitor that the electrodes are attached to has to be attached to my side by a strap, making sleeping of any kind a terrible issue.

So, I survived the holter monitor, swearing never to do anything like that ever again. (Note, I had to wear one like that, but for neurological reasons--that was a year ago. The electrodes attached to my head and it monitored to see if I had Complex Partial Seizures).

The holter monitor said that I had symptoms of ventricular tachycardia, (a rapid heart rate). They said that it's probably due to low potassium levels.

Well, *now* they're telling me that I have to do another monitor...this time, for **thirty days**.

Apparently, the T-wave test didn't say enough about why my heart beats so quickly at random times, so I have to wear this stupid monitor for thirty days straight.

I need a hug :-/

Sending you many hugs!

I always wondered about those monitors. You'd think that having the monitor attached would interrupt/interfere with your normal "readings." It's Einstein or Heisenberg or one of those guys! By shining a light on a subject to observe it, you change it.

Lots and lots of hugs!! It must be really uncomfortable wearing the monitor.

Have they tested you to see if you have low potassium?

AW, I'm so sorry to hear this. You poor precious little bunny. I have borderline low potassium and take a little capsule everyday. Hope that's all you'll need to get yourself back on track. Sending hugs your way! (((((((((()))))))))

Still alive, everyone!!

Had to slow it down a bit...Have a case of something horrific. My doctor says that it isn't the flu, but I beg to differ. It's taken me down hard, and I'm still down. This is my third day out of school, and I was sick all weekend, too! As for the heart monitor, it's probably going to be done during the summer or just before summer. We'll see how it goes...
