Join the Nomads ahead of MP's talk in Christchurch by NomadNZ on 4 February 2003 3:33pm

This is an open invite for Michael and all to join nomads from Iceland, Greece, Germany, USA, Russia, England, Wales, South Africa, Maoridom, and beyond, for an informal gathering from 5:00pm to 6:30pm on Friday, Feb. 7 at Santorini Restaurant, before we walk over to the Centra for his talk. For a spoof of a previous Santorini gathering under our Tech BBQ banner, see http://www.wordengineering.net/sillycon/santorini.html

We've all emigrated to New Zealand at some point over the last thousand years, and like Mark Twain have found, "travel to be fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness."

For more of Mark Twain on travel, see http://www.twainquotes.com/Travel.html

A topical one is, "People think New Zealand is close to Australia or Asia and that you cross it on a bridge. But that is not so. It is not close to anything."

If Michael can't make it, as is likely, we'll appoint a cat in his stead and wish them both well, as in this 1905 interview with Mark Twain's cat, Bambino….

If you're interested in emigrating like us to this privileged country that's not close to anything but has so much, including four seasons in most days, try http://www.immigration.govt.nz.
Cheers,
Gary

We're not associated with the official event or signings. This is a Fringe Event with no organisation whatsoever. We will probably meet at Santorini again after the book signing. Aside - I forgot to mention we also have nomads from the Netherlands (my wife included). For directions to Santorini, see http://www.santorini.co.nz/location.htm
Cheers,
Gary

We traveled to Wellington to see Michael yesterday and he was brilliant, so you're in for a fun night!

Ellen,
We meet every Friday after work and everyone is welcome; you can sign up for the email list and see the location at http://www.wordengineering.net/bbq.html

The gathering was originally for techies, but now has fortunately expanded beyond geeks (who build Mini Cooper sized Van de Graaf generators) to include artists, musicians, designers, writers, and friends.

Given the wide range of nationalities and experiences, there is a lot of appreciation for Michael's work and outlook.
