Webmaster. by Ken Dunn on 25 October 2015 6:16am

Hi webmaster. there seems to be a virus in the Google Earth topic here. Perhaps you could delete the whole topic as it is obsolete.

Re: Webmaster. by Ken Dunn on 25 October 2015 6:20am

More likely it is someone with nothing better to do with their time than create spam. One of their messages does seem to start with 'welcome to the website' and the language maybe German or Scandinavian.

Hi again webmaster. Hold the request in my first post here. I'm trying to deal with the problem posts.

Perhaps Isabel or Nunis could help us translate your ramblings.

Ken, only just seen this as I've not been on the site for ages.

I've emailed Webbie.

It might be worth waiting to see how many different user names appear this time. I also see the posts seem to be in English now so perhaps they will register properly and stop this gobbledeygook. We wouldn't want the webmaster controlled by the spammers now would we? Webmaster can also block any user name so that option may be next, then the computer that is generating the messages can be taken offline - but that is police business. Now which of my police friends could I ask about the investigation into this, starting in Sweden it looks like one for Interpol.

Re: Webmaster. by Ken Dunn on 27 October 2015 9:52pm

Here's a bit of detective work. I'm assuming that the spammers are professional so are posting at either 3pm or 11am in their own working day. Between these two times there is a 4 hour window in the 24 hour day so we can get a time zone and the countries within it to narrow down the investigation. It's rather tenuous but I'm off to check the time of the latest post in the spam thread.

Bingo. A morning start for the spammer(s) puts them in Sweden/UK/France/Africa etc. Note that Swedish was the language originally used in the spam.
~
Now we watch for a post at 11pm tonight so that they try to put themselves on the other side of the world.

There it is 10.15pm. 45 minutes from 11pm. Maybe tenuous but these spammers are in the group of countries listed or on the other side of the world which puts them on the dateline in the Pacific ocean. Population in the Pacific area is far less than the countries listed so they are definitely (in my opinion) Swedish. Note that most Europeans who are not from UK have a second language and the most common one is English.

The source is forumcircle.com. It looks like that website may have been hacked. It is a website where anyone anywhere can set up their own forum on it.
~
I've got to shelve my Sweden theory partly because the first messages after the deletion started to arrive at 11am and they have been arriving regularly since. We need to wait overnight to see if the messages stop or whether they are being sent randomly by a computer. This is a possibility and 'Lornparm' has set it up.
~
You'd think I liked dealing with spam?!
~
Tomorrow the user name of the spammer(s) must be blocked by webmaster. At this time they are posting every 2 hours or so.
~
Goodnight till tomorrow.
~
SF2, it might be best next time if you ask webmaster to block Lornsparm (sp?) and Altsparm (sp?).
