Florence by suzulu on 9 October 2014 12:27am

I have just returned home after a few days in Florence. So much to see and not enough time to see it all. We had such beautiful weather too. Stayed in an interesting hotel which used to house the Servite monks who worked in the Hospital of the Innocents across the piazza. They are now in the process of making this old hospital a museum. Many years ago spent half a day in Florence en route to somewhere else and I vowed I would go back one day so I have. Need to go back and see more. The only downsides were the hordes of people and the smelly drains! I also felt sorry for the horses pulling carriages with tourists around the city.

Florence has been on my bucket list since I did two modules on art in Florence, Sienna and Padua in the 13th/12th centuries as part of my BA (Hons) in the 1980s. I fell in love with the place on paper!

One of my two bffs (we've been friends for 53 years!) has been a couple of times recently.

I will get there one day !

Glad you had a good time - silly question but did you visit the Duomo?

Not a silly question, Anne. There was a queue a mile long for the Duomo each day we were there so we didn't bother. Likewise for the Accademia Gallery but you can book online apparently. Next time...

I was there as a teenager. Had a blast. Would like to go again, but not sure.

I sent my sister and other people postcards from Florence. They arrived yesterday so they took three weeks to arrive. My sister's card had been to Prague on it way to Wales!!
