Ohio State Reformatory Mansfield, Ohio by AGM on 3 September 2014 4:26pm

Big former prison. Shawshank Redemption was filmed there. Went there a few weeks ago with some friends, and we had so much fun! The outside of the building looks like a castle, and the inside is all falling apart and creepy. We toured on our own, but there are group tours at certain times, ghost walks, and ghost hunts. Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures have both been there. Go! Have fun!

Yes, I saw Shawshank Redemption and I have seen the Ghost Hungers episode.

We visited Alcatraz a few years ago. Very creepy, very sad actually. Then we went to Kilmainham Jail in Dublin before that. I cried on that tour. I did.

The prison system is a weird thing. I know, I know, ...what do you do with all those people who commit crimes and break the law? There is also the fact that Capital punishment, still used in states here in the US of course, has had BIG problems.

There was a great article a while ago in the New Yorker that really made me think. I am NOT an advocate for the death penalty at all. And this article, Cruel and Unusual, makes you think that not only do the drugs used in lethal injection assist in the death penalty, everything in the room does.

I'm against the death penalty, too. It seems to me if killing is wrong, then the death penalty is wrong also. I wonder if I would feel differently if someone I knew had been murdered though.

I am also against the death penalty - it is the main reason I joined Amnesty International 20 or more years ago (they campaign against it).

One of the main arguments pro-death penalty folk give me, AGM, is 'what if the victim was a relative/friend'. My response is that I would STILL be anti-death penalty; you have to separate the argument and personal events.

I agree, Spursfan2. Easier said than done though I suppose.
