*** IDEA for a NEW travel program *** by pjsalda on 15 December 2011 9:34am

I am reviewing the programs from Palin (I am a convicted Palinist!) and last night when finishing Full Circle I came out with an idea for a new documentary.

Since I am portuguese and from what I remember Palins' travels, I think he missed a big part of Africa ... taking this in consideration, why not pursue the trip of our big explorer Vasco da Gama who discover the maritime way to India and opened a new world era! It was a big achievement for that time finding a faster way to increase trade from eastern asia to europe.

Starting from Lisbon, going along western africa countries, turning around in Cape town, going up africa coast again and finishing in India - Calcuta!

What do you think! I miss new shows from Palin!

Let's support this idea.

Nice idea, but about 10-15 years too late. Michael's already stated he isn't interested in doing these type of grand tours as they are too long and draining. Most he wants to do are 2-4 weeks of filming, then go home. What you're proposing would take half a year at least of filming.

I agree though, that region of Africa hasn't had much attention. Then again, there's a reason for it - it's dangerous, particularly a heavily maritime based show involves going through dangerous waters (both mother nature and sea pirates), and introduces stale sea time to combat.

I think you are right. I have just reviseted Pole-to-Pole and big part of black africa is dangerous... I think we can get a new nice taste of Michael from the announced Brasil series.

But, if he wants a nice challenge in europe could be "Lisbon - Moscow" and he could revisit some countries. I think it would be nice to do in máx 2 months filming.

Thanks for posting.

I forgot to mention the rational for that trip: the lnik between the most western to the most eastern capital of continental europe!

Sounds interesting, but some of those places he has visited before.

I would love to see the crew do a trip through the Islands of the Carribbean. Each island is determined to make itself distinct from the others and some were colonised by the French, Spanish and the English.

They even have their own version of the Carribean Island Olympics! Can't think of the correct name right now.

On our first trip to the Islands of Turks and Caicos the taxi driver told us he was British. The last time we went, in November 2011, another taxi driver told us that being part of the British Colonies was like being part of a big family. He said that once mother has raised you though, it is time to break away. So maybe when the island comes out of this recession we'll see Turks and Caicos seeking Independance like Jamaica did.

Would LOVE to see Michael do an in-depth tour of Iceland...I'd gladly carry the parrot cage and show him around.

I would love to see MP doing the journey WE did around India 11 years ago.

Like you HOLadd1 I would be chief advisor.

:D
