Michael Palin spoke in Russian! by IPAAT on 19 February 2009 12:35pm

Now Michael can say in Russian not only «polyushko-pole» and «probka dlya vannoj» and much more. At next week for the first time in Russia on the DVD release starts a series of Michael - the first disc series «Himalayas»

Congratulations to all! :-)))

But it must be said that Michael as a traveler Russians already know - it could see a series on special Russian TV channel «Culture» in 2005-2006:

I tried all your links and they all came up with a website in cryllic which unfortunately I don't understand. I didn't see any reference to Mr P and the only person I recognised was Clint Eastwood.

The first link has a redundant semicolon in it. Just delete it and it works fine.

Many, many, many years ago I had Russian at school. Not that I'm able to use it anymore, but funnily I can still read it. So here is what I still can decipher:

.... hm sorry folks... only cryptic symbols appeared on screen in the message... obviously Russian letters don't work here

Ken Dunn, You are not careful - the link "Full circle" Michael - to a portrait of Michael with the newspaper ;-)

Holle, a symbol ; can not be removed and not clearly whence arises :-(

And in English I have no links - in Russia speak in Russian :-)

But there is a translator Google :-)
http://translate.google.com/translate_t#ru|en|%D0%9C%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BA%D0%BB%20%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BD
(copy all this link and paste in browser - it's a funny)

The link I followed
http://video.soyuz.ru/?s=_cat&;;idn=85121
worked fine, though it does have the name translated too. This is just part one though, as the running time says 110 minutes and shows two episodes, unless Im completely mistaken....

I hope that the other films as Michael will be realesed on DVD in Russia.
Now I have the only copy from the Russian TV-channel from the pirates. :-)

It's "Himalaya", not "Himalayas", though.
Terrific news:) I'll let Michael know about that when I see him.

And now Michael knows how to write in Russian :-)

In 2011 Russia came his three books - Around the World in 80 Days, Hemingway Adventure and Himalaya.

I don't know about 2 others, but ATWIED is absolutely TERRIBLY translated! Outrageously bad. Sometimes I wondered if that translator was sane.
